AWS Data Exchange Helps Customers Find, Share Data Sets
Public cloud giant Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched AWS Data Exchange service that enables customers to find, subscribe to and use third-party data in the cloud.

Customers can use the AWS Data Exchange API or console to ingest data they subscribe to directly into Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) to use across the portfolio of cloud services in AWS. Loading of data is done either using the AWS Data Exchange API or console.
Upon the publication of a new revision to existing data, AWS Data Exchange will also notify subscribers via an Amazon CloudWatch event. This allows customers to automatically consume new revisions in their data lakes, applications, analytics, and machine-learning models running on AWS.
For security, AWS Data Exchange prohibits sharing sensitive personal data such as personal health information, as well as any personal data that is not already lawfully and publicly available.
Data products cover a wide range of industries including financial services, healthcare, life sciences, geospatial, consumer, media and entertainment, and others. Qualified data providers may offer free or paid products under the terms of use that they specify. At launch, data providers include Reuters, Foursquare, Pitney Bowes, IMDb and Epsilon.
Stephen Orban, general manager of AWS Data Exchange, observed that the way customers exchange data hasn’t evolved much over the last two decades. But as more organizations dabble with analytics and machine-learning models, they are asking for an easier way to find, subscribe to, and integrate diverse data sets into their applications and workloads on AWS.
“AWS Data Exchange gives our customers the ability to quickly integrate third-party data in the workloads they’re migrating to the cloud, while giving qualified data providers a modern and secure way to package, deliver, and reach the millions of AWS customers worldwide,” said Orban.
AWS Data Exchange is currently available in the Asia Pacific AWS regions of Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney and Seoul.
