Messaging app giant LINE will use Cloudera to support its AI technology-based business and the Data Science and Engineering Center (DSEC).
DSEC is a R&D organization that integrates all of the data teams in LINE that previously existed on a service-by-service basis. These include data platform development, data analysis, machine learning, AI technology development, and fundamental research.
The partnership will help LINE better manage its data lifecycle and speed up its data-driven innovation on a platform that runs on open source technology.
Line's DSEC handles enormous volumes and varieties of data to deliver insights. Multiple lines of business rely on this data to provide services to the company’s 186 million monthly active users around the world.
"In order to be at the forefront of innovation, it is crucial for us to be able to manage, harness, and secure big data while democratizing it," says Cheolho Choi, engineering director of data platform and Fellow of data engineering at LINE Corporation.
"Given Cloudera's expertise in architecting, designing, and securing mission-critical big data platforms, we are confident that they can improve on the robust LINE data platform to speed time to value, reinforce our data security, and reduce operational costs."
As part of the partnership, Cloudera will provide ongoing technical domain know-how and guidance. The collaboration will help LINE merge its big data infrastructure while minimizing downtime, optimizing its big data environment for machine learning technologies and existing analysis workloads. Cloudera will also train DSEC's engineers to manage and secure big data .
With Cloudera's Data Platform enterprise-grade centralized security and governance capabilities, DSEC expects to improve its data management and governance while allowing operators to set and maintain metadata parameters for security, regulatory compliance and data analytics.
By unifying the data warehouses from LINE's various services, users across the organization can also access managed, self-service analytics.
"Consumers today expect businesses to offer personalized services and innovate quickly while keeping their data safe," says Mark Micallef, vice president of Asia Pacific and Japan at Cloudera.
