Tableau Unveils New Features, Subscription Plans

Tableau has unveiled new data and analytics capabilities that the Salesforce-owned firm says will help customers enhance their digital transformations by empowering employees with trusted and governed data.

The new features will enable businesses to drive better business outcomes and drive data analytics at scale, says Tableau. It cited research data that shows 92 percent of companies failing to scale analytics and how IT and business leaders are concerned that security and governance are slowing the pace of innovation.

New Tableau features

The new Tableau capabilities revolve around managing the data chaos and enabling data governance at scale. For instance, Data Prep can generate missing rows to map out trends in data.

New governance features maintain data quality by highlighting potential issues and offer greater visibility into the origin of data sources. Tableau administrators can now configure more granular data access down to the data slices that users and groups can access.

A new Dynamic Scaling feature helps ensure that businesses have enough containers during peak periods while scaling down during periods of low demand. The new Resource Management feature also allows IT teams to optimize the performance of Tableau Server by defining application resource limits.

“IT leaders are facing unprecedented challenges today and the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the need to increase data self-sufficiency and empower everyone to do more with data,” said Doug Henschen, vice president, and principal analyst at Constellation Research.

“It’s no longer a luxury for businesses to have a data analytics platform, it’s a necessity that could make the difference between surviving and thriving,” he said.

“Tableau has long been a favorite to help individuals see and understand data. We’re making it easier for IT leaders to make it a favorite across the entire enterprise and deliver an end-to-end solution to leverage the full power of data analytics,” said Francois Ajenstat, the Chief Product Officer at Tableau.

New enterprise subscription plans are unveiled at the same time, with Creator, Explorer, and Viewer licenses for Tableau Online with Data Management, and Data Management plus Server Management for Tableau Server.

The new enterprise subscription plans will also make it easier to procure and deploy its analytics platform across an entire organization, with the company has made the decision to bundle analytics with Data Management and Server Management.

These will be made available later this month; additional details are available in this Tableau blog post here.
