New Tableau Online Regions Launched in Asia Pacific

Analytics platform Tableau Software today announced that it has launched two new regions in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) for its Tableau Online service.

The hosted version of Tableau Server is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering that lets users explore analytics from a browser or mobile device, with maintenance, upgrades, and security are managed entirely by Tableau.

Tableau Online goes to Japan, Australia

Located in Tokyo, Japan, and Sydney, Australia, the new regions are Tableau’s first regions in APJ and fifth worldwide including the United States and Europe.

Tableau Online is a fast-growing area of Tableau, and the two new regions in APJ will allow more customers to migrate their analytics to the cloud and help with business transformations, says Tableau.

Notably, the new regions in APJ will significantly reduce the distance between customers’ data and the service. This is expected to reduce latency, offering shorter load times and faster extract refreshes for customers. Finally, Tableau says that the new regions will also make it easier for customers to comply with regional data residency regulations.

“Given the current climate, which is changing how we work and how businesses operate, many organizations are accelerating their shift to the cloud. We have a large base of Tableau Online customers in APJ, and a growing call for local regions. As we continue to listen to our customers and deliver on their needs, the new APJ regions will enable us to better support them through their journey to the cloud,” said JY Pook, the senior vice president of Tableau in the Asia Pacific & Japan.
