SAS Working to Develop Data Science and Analytics Talent
SAS is working to build a sustainable pool of data science and analytics talent by collaborating with educational institutions, as well as recognizing students and educators for their contributions in these fields.
Collaborating with schools
Specifically, SAS is collaborating with universities and schools to develop more local talent in data science, analytics, and AI across the Asia Pacific. Closer to home, SAS is in longstanding academic partnerships with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and Swinburne University in Singapore and Malaysia, respectively.
“SAS’ deep-rooted history in academia and our strong collaborations with these educational institutions helps to meet the rising demand for technology professionals in the region,” said Remco den Heijer, the ASEAN VP of SAS.
“It is important to nurture the right skillsets in students to equip them with the knowledge about analytics and AI which is so widely used today in almost every industry.”
“The pandemic has put a bright spotlight on the importance of analyzing data to make better decisions. This year’s honorees are a testament to a world driven by analytics, at a time where their expertise is needed most,” said Sean O’Brien, VP of SAS Education.
To recognize educators and students who are teaching, learning, and using SAS in innovative ways, SAS recently unveiled a new award called the “Emerging SAS Educator Award” to honor educators who showed exemplary progress in advancing analytics education and creating new analytics and data science talent. This was announced at the virtual SAS Global Forum 2020.
In the meantime, SAS has also launched flexible and free learning options in response to COVID-19 for those looking to learn programming or statistics. While the free courses are only available only at the “beginner” level, they give newcomers a good introduction to SAS and statistical concepts from the comfort of their homes.
