Tableau Launches Free Data Literacy Training Program
Analytics platform Tableau Software has announced a “Data Literacy for All” program that it says will let anyone learn foundational data skills for free in a guided manner.
The program features seven eLearning modules designed to help anyone regardless of their background – from students, recent graduates, and longtime members of the workforce, to reskill and establish a foundation of data literacy. This ranges from the ability to explore, understand and communicate with data.

Data Literacy for All builds on the ongoing success of the Tableau Academic program which has enabled more than 1.3 million students and educators to use Tableau’s visual analytics platform as an educational resource for free.
The additional training curriculum is crafted to bridge both foundational skills and practical business needs, and is expected to fuel the talent pipeline with critical data skills to foster the next generation of data workers and empower a more data literate workforce, says Tableau.
“Regardless of role or tenure, data skills are no longer a ‘nice to have.’ The events of this year have accelerated the need for organizations to adapt and evolve with timely, accurate decision-making rooted in data,” said Courtney Totten, the director of Tableau Academic Programs. “Whether preparing to join the workforce or reskilling amidst the ‘new normal,’ the journey towards building a more data literate world begins with cultivating foundational data skills at every level.”
According to KJ Kim, who is the head of Tableau Academic Programs for the Asia Pacific and Japan, data skills is one of the most in-demand skills here. She pointed to how the Singapore government’s previous announcement that it will train 20,000 public officers in data skills by 2023 to illustrate her point.
But despite the strong upskilling push from governments in the region, there is still a skills gap in the workforce. Kim said: “Bridging this gap will require a collaborative approach with industry players and we at Tableau are excited to contribute towards equipping both the current and future workforce with the skillsets the modern business landscape demands.”
