Novartis wanted a smarter way for its employees to access data and optimize its business processes. So, the Swiss multinational pharmaceutical company offered its 30,000 employees access to over 500 Qlik applications.
The result is a six-figure USD saving through optimized budget and resource allocations. Besides, the company had a single source of truth, improved data trust, and improved data-driven decision making across the organization.
From the onset, Novartis was clear on what it expected from an analytics platform. It wanted to optimize data-driven value creation across the entire company: from saving time and valuable resources to optimizing processes and identifying new business opportunities.
“Data is part of our DNA at Novartis. The challenge we faced was in finding a platform that would allow all departments across the organization to consistently drive value from our data chain,” said Loic Giraud, business analytics COE lead at Novartis.
Qlik created a company-wide uniform database with validated data quality, ensuring reliable results for supporting decisions across the organizations — from procurement and production to marketing, sales, finance, and management.
Novartis chose the Qlik analytics platform because of the high-performance analysis, optimal data availability, and an intuitive analytics experience that incorporates data from all sources without infrastructure barriers.
The democratization of all available data, backed by central data governance, enabled Novartis to drive self-service analytics, including on mobile devices.
“The role of Qlik in turning our ambitions for data into reality cannot be understated. The platform has not only digitally strengthened, optimized, and expanded existing business areas, but is helping to open up new opportunities and is supporting the digital transformation of the entire organization,” said Giraud.
Specific benefits include:
Novartis is expanding the use of the Qlik analytics platform with location-based data with Qlik GeoAnalytics. It combines geographic data with various data sources to improve its existing geo-mapping and increase the value of the map visualizations. The company is also testing Qlik’s Data Integration solutions to accelerate and ease real-time analytics and data unification of sources, such as SAP.
