AI to Fight Recruitment Bias

Artificial intelligence is often blamed for taking over human jobs. But future employees may yet thank it for ensuring unbiased recruiting.

Take Oracle’s new Human Capital Management (HCM) for example. Announced at the recent Oracle OpenWorld, the latest version of the Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) cloud takes a radical approach by using AI to simplify the experience and enhance employee experience.

The new offering uses data analytics and machine learning to simplify laborious HR processes while aligning employee job responsibilities to overall company's goals. It also uses it to eliminate bias in all HR processes while helping them to deal with complex agreements related to unions.

IBM is also joining the fray with its Watson branded offerings. Its Adverse Impact Analysis (AIA) tackles unconscious bias in employment while its Watson Talent Frameworks for creating talent strategies that consider all available data.

The newly announced Workday People Analytics, which combines AI with technologies from its Stories.bi acquisition, allows HR teams to address biases through a natural language-based narrative. The aim is to empower HR professionals to reduce human bias across all HR processes and discussions, and tackle issues like diversity and inclusivity more comprehensively.

Meanwhile, SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Management already employs Leonardo Machine Learning capabilities in its job analyzer to craft effective and unbiased job descriptions. It is also helping its customers to remove inherent biases surrounding age, ethnicity and “differently-abled” and LGBT communities in its HCM Suite using the same machine learning engine.
